Project Reflection:
Purpose
The purpose of this project was to learn about DNA and learn the process of making a movie. I really liked this project because we were able to combine biology with other things to learn. I feel that I as an individual met that purpose because I was able to learn what I needed and also had fun being an actor and building props for the video. I think that we as a class may have not met our purpose as much because we didn't finish the movie. This doesn't mean we did a bad job and I still feel like we learned what we needed to it just would have been better if we had had more time and maybe a little more structure to make sure we did not run out of time.
Warm feedback
I think that one thing I personally did well in throughout this project was having multiple jobs and completing all of them. In the beginning I was told to help come up with the storyline and after changing my job fro that I had to help build props. We built props for a little while and once the filming started I was an actor. I think that being an actor was the most fun and I probably learned the most from that because memorizing lines about DNA that I had to say really helped them to stay in my head. I think that the class did well over the course of this project was to give tasks to everyone and complete all jobs needed. When making a movie although our process was a little unprofessional we had a lot of different jobs that if they were not completed then the movie would not have even barely been started. We also did a good job making sure that everyone had a job and nobody was just messing around with nothing to do.
Areas for growth
A challenge that I had on a personal level was staying focused. In class I tend to mess around a little bit and when the class is all over the place in an entire class group project it is really easy to just wander off and not do any work. This is something that I know I have done in the past but I felt that I improved on this during this project and was mostly focused for the project. Challenges that we experienced as a whole class were timing and props. We ran out of time and weren't able to finish the video as well as we felt hurried for a lot of the time. Props was also a big problem in the video considering we filmed our school bus scenes in the backseat of Hannah's yellow car. I think that the best way that these challenges could be handled in the future is by giving ourselves more time to plan exactly what we are going to need to make the video successful. Another thing I feel would have helped us is come up with a video idea that we felt was easily attainable and didn't need very much money for props and costumes. There was a lot of collaboration in this project. We split up the class into a few different groups to work on the different sections so there was some collaboration right there. The other times we used a lot of collaboration was when two groups working on different things had to agree on something that pertained to both groups. I collaborated in this class mainly in the section when I was building props. This was where I used collaboration because we for sure had disagreements about how we should build props, what color to paint stuff and that kind of thing. Overall we all ended up agreeing on that kind of stuff so thats where I feel I used collaboration the most.
Looking forwards
I don't think that I would change anything in my approach to collaboration because there were no arguments that weren't solved. I really liked the project and I don't think that theres anything that I would change except more time so we could finish the movie. Seeing as there is nothing I would change I think I would keep everything the same about the project.
